To commemorate the eleven-hundredth anniversary of the Heian capital foundation in Kyoto, Oka Bokkodo was established as a business in 1894, the 27th year of the Meiji Period. For 120 years, we have endeavored to preserve cultural heritage by looking both to new techniques, and the inheritance of traditional techniques passed from the effort and cooperation of generations past, including our employees. Over the course of this long history, our experience conserving many works of art, including Important Cultural Heritage, is a great asset for our company.

Today, we are also influenced by Western conservation methods and approach etc. We view the conservation of paintings and writings of cultural heritage as a lifelong calling of study and work, the fundamentals of which can all be found in the thousand-year tradition of the hanging scroll.

Our company is faithful to these fundamental skills, while also combining scientific knowledge, aiming for inheritance of the traditional technique of “scroll-mounter” and focusing on raising the qualified “conservators”.
